The stone path to the picturesque chapel is surrounded by lush greenery, offering glimpses of the enchanting view of the Castle to the visitor.
Historical records date the construction of the original church to the 18th century, which, according to the owner's inscription at the entrance, was destroyed by fire. The current church was rebuilt in 1760, and its decoration was completed in 1762. Therefore, many consider it the second most significant archaeological monument after the Castle, as it was the first Metropolis of Lamia.
There are various interpretations regarding the name of the church. The prevailing one states that the church is dedicated to the Entry of the Lady Theotokos, while others argue that its name is attributed to the prominent and rulers of Lamia who either created or worshipped there.
The structure of the church is simple, with a single-aisle Basilica architecture, later divided into two sloping roofs, while in a later period, a narthex was added that does not bear frescoes.
The interior of the main church confirms its name through elaborate themes and four rows of zones. The first row presents the testimonies of saints from the Old and New Testaments, while the second depicts the narrative of the events from the Holy Baptism to the Resurrection. The third and fourth rows include a multitude of saints, both men and women.
Every year, the small chapel receives multiple visits and celebrates the Entry of the Theotokos. Hidden in the wooded landscape at a short distance is the Holy Chapel of AgioiAnargyroi of Lamia, belonging to the Parish of PanagiaDespina. Despite the uphill path, every traveler is rewarded when choosing to follow the narrow streets of Laou Square to head towards the Castle.
