The neoclassical building of the Lamia Courthouse stands imposingly in the heart of the city, on Kapodistriou Street, representing the significant legal tradition of the region. The journey of the Lamia Courthouse over time can be paralleled as an epic narrative of the endurance and strength of Justice. The neoclassical masterpiece began construction after 1903 and was completed in the late 1911, funded by the national benefactor, Andreas Syngros. Despite the destruction suffered during the ruthless bombing in 1941 by the Germans and the earthquake in 1980, it remains a vibrant part of Lamia's history.
The Lamia Courthouse faced challenges with dignity, showcasing its resilience. The bombing and the natural devastating earthquake failed to extinguish this architectural legacy.
Within the Lamia Courthouse, nationally known trials unfolded, such as the trial of Kileler in 1910, the trial of the Emergency Military Court of Lamia in 1918, the "Trial of Lamia" in 1922, the trials of the Military Court of Lamia during the years 1945-1950, the trial of Spyridoula in 1956, the trial of Gorgopotamos in 1965, while to this day many more cases that shook the country continue to be adjudicated here.
This building also houses the Bar Association of Lamia, one of the oldest in Greece, founded in 1866.
